San Francisco | Arts + ActionMarch 4 Street Theater: Billionaires for Fee Hikes Tell Students "Sell a Kidney"
Pre-Convergence Rally in front of City Hall photos by E. Wentworth. Lyrics to Billionaires for Fee Hikes Song and chants. The Mercury News reported:
The severity of the situation for many students offered plenty of satircal materials for the Raging Grannies, a Peninsula-based guerrilla theater group who frequent public protests. Dressed as "billionaires for fee hikes" in feather boas and pillbox hats, the troupe members chewed cigars, shouting out advice to students struggling with fee increases to "sell a kidney" or "go pump gas." They chanted "poor people get a clue, universities not for you." Song of the Billionaires for Fee Hikes by Gail Sredanovic tune: Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer If you can't pay tuition We have got a tip for you Just go and sell a kidney You need only one not two We only like the students Who can pay up front with dough If you don't have the money Sorry kid you'll have to go Kidneys are a good re-source You need just one to live We won't have to pay more tax You will be the one to give.....for Learning is not important Poor folks do not count we say We will import trained workers Let some other country pay! Chant: You say Less Jails, we say More Jails You say More Schools, We say Fewer Schools!
