The keynote speech will be delivered by California Assemblyman Warren Furutani and the MC will be Jana Katsuyama of KTVU Channel 2. There will be performance by Purple Moon Dance Project , a presentation by the Rosa Parks Elementary School Japanese Bi-lingual Bi-Cultural Program and a candlelighting ceremony. At the JCCCNC portion of the event there will be an inter-faith ceremony by the Japanese American Religious Federation.
The Day of Remembrance commemorates the anniversary of Executive Order 9066 which led to the forced incarceration of 120,000 people of Japanese descent, two-thirds of whom were American citizens. Each year, we gather to remember that great civil liberties tragedy from over 65 years ago and each one of us reflects on what that event means to us today.
