The exhibit ‘Taking Back KPFA – Images from 1999”, currently on view until February 5, is an important exhibition of art, photos and memorabilia from the successful and historical resistance by the staff and listener community to the takeover of the Pacifica network and the 3 week closing down and lockout at our flagship station. This resistance saved and expanded the meaning of community, free speech radio.
On Sunday, January 24, 2010, 2:00-5:00, at a special event for the KPFA community, you will have the opportunity to view, purchase, and bid on theses items commemorating the 10th anniversary of that struggle which took place in the station, on the streets, at the board meetings, and in the courts. There will be silent auctions with part of your purchase going to support KPFA. The gallery is also contributing 10% of all other art work sold. The exhibit is part of ‘Past, Present, and Future’ at Expressions Gallery, 2035 Ashby Ave., (1/4 block from Ashby BART) Berkeley. Gallery hours: Wednesday-Sunday 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. 510.644.4930. Wheelchair accessible. http://www.expressionsgallery.org
