A Bomb in Every Issue:
How the Short, Unruly Life of Ramparts Magazine Changed America
Author Peter Richardson
with special guests
Media Critic/Author Norman Solomon and
Foreign Correspondent/Author Reese Erlich
This “dream team” of progressive writers will discuss Peter’s new book (ISBN: 978-1-59558-439-7; The New Press, September 2009; 256 pages; $25.95 hardcover).
A Bomb in Every Issue recounts the short (1962-1975) but utterly remarkable life of Ramparts magazine which quickly became the premier progressive publication of its era. Deeply committed to the civil rights and antiwar movements, Ramparts list of contributors and staff - - Noam Chomsky, Cesar Chavez, Seymour Hersh, Angela Davis, Tariq Ali, Robert Scheer, Jann Wenner, Reese Erlich and Adam Hochschild- - forms a veritable who’s who of politics and journalism. Ramparts’ combination of high audacity and solid reporting deeply influenced a generation of progressive writers and remains an inspiration for investigative journalists.
Author Peter Richardson, San Anselmo, is the author of American Prophet: The Life and Work of Carey McWilliams. He is the editorial director of PoliPointPress in Sausalito, CA; the chair of the California Studies Association; and teaches courses on California culture at San Francisco State University. He is also a member of Progressive Democrats of Marin.
