The mural was painted at the end of 2007, after police officer Patrick Gonzales beat, tazered, and shot 20 year old, unarmed and innocent, Gary King Jr in the back. Gary passed away in hand cuffs next to this pillar, while his young cousin had to watch, unable to put pressure on the wounds because officer Gonzales put a gun to his head and said that he would kill him if he touched Gary. Gary ran a construction company with his father and was a productive member of the community. His life was stolen before he got to see the birth of his baby girl. If the more recent murder of Oscar Grant wasn't enough, the act of buffing Gary's memorial is a symbol of BART's complete disrespect of the community and human life. We will never forget Gary or any of the lives stolen by Police.

It figures that an institution like BART, who has protected the racist police officers who were involved in murdering Oscar Grant, like Tony Pirone, would take the action in removing this mural to the memory of Gary King Jr. Many people do not know( because the Oakland Tribune had censored and never printed a story) but the city of Oakland just settled a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Gary King's family for a large sum of money. The police had murdered Gary King Jr. just as they did to Oscar Grant and in the aftermath the system in power protects those police when they kill. BART protects cops like Tony Pirone by not firing him, the DA's office refuses to prosecute Tony Pirone, the Oakland Tribune censors and does not print stories about wrongful death suits being settled, etc., etc., etc. The beat goes on, but only if the people let it.

Oakland was $80 million short this year, hence the new parking charges and so forth. But here they are paying out $1.5 million and in July they paid out over $650,000 for the murder of Jody Woodfox. Who knows how many other OPD murders were settled with payments this year? And even worse, Gonzales is still on the force!

Gonzales was made a hero because he was wounded in the botched raid to get Lovelle Mixon. The real public does not know that he shot Gary King Jr. in the back, as well a three others. Gonzales is a killer cop as much as Mesherle is!

I think you misunderstood, LADYDOT. The people who put BACK up the art work did it after the COPS took it down. Don't get it twisted. Anyway, the 2nd set of artworks just got taken down - sandblasted by the Oakland PD.
