Alameda Labor Council Calls For Support Of Sep 24th Statewide UC Workers and Students Strike

This is a formal request to honor sanctioned picket lines at University of Californiafacilities in Alameda County:

Thursday, September 24, 2009 - lines up at 5:30am
Rally at 11:30am at Sproul Plaza
* Berkeley Campus (entire campus)
* Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory
* UC Office of the President, 1111 Franklin Street, Oakland

The Executive Committee of the Alameda Labor Council has previously voted unanimously to grant strike sanction against the University of California, for locations at the Berkeley campus, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Oakland Office of the President.

By our records, this is the seventh strike sanction granted by this Council against the University in the past three years. The University?s chronic refusal to honor the contributions of hard-working men and women has again led us to the point of disruption of essential services. The University is using the budget cuts to impose layoffs and furloughs, increase tuition 30%, and to privatize public education. Students and faculty will join workers for the walk-out. Campus unions, Building Trades and Teamsters have been advised.

Picketlines will be up at these locations and at all UC campuses statewide for the day, starting at 5:30am, including all construction sites.
