San Francisco | Arts + ActionResearchers demonstrate vulnerabilities in SF's "smart" parking meters
A team of researchers recently announced that they were able to breach the "smart" card payment system for San Francisco's new electronic parking meters. The researchers say it took only 3 days of work to intercept and reverse engineer the communications between the card and the meter, and then emulate a card with the maximum possible value of $999.99. The team presented their findings in two talks at the Black Hat and DefCon conferences in Las Vegas. ![]() parking-meter-ffffff.png
