The issue of Building 51 and the Bevatron apparatus was not on the counsel agenda this past week. The city counsel however did allow 1 speaker from each side to speak briefly on the issues. Speaking on behalf of the Committee to Minimize Toxic Waste was Pamela Shilova. One spokesperson came to speak on behalf of the lab. The counsel itself only showed a deep concern for possible damage to street infrastructure, not for the health and safety of citizens. The LBNL spokesperson offered no new information, opting to only public answer one question regarding the roads. He was questioned at the door, regarding safety and oversight.

since the radioactive materials exist, what do folks think should be done with them?
should they be kept where they are? should they be transported, but in a different way? should a different route be taken when transporting them?
im just wondering what alternatives people would want.
thanks for posting this and showing how clueless lbnl seem to be about the whole thing.

Good Question. The first alternative would be to secure the materials where they stand. Reinforce the walls, store materials there on site.
Baring that, the question is why go drive through Berkeley, when it would be easier to drive the back way down the hill, then briefly go through a sparsely populated area of the Orinda area. Then hit the freeway on the way out.
Then there's the issue of being frank on the issues. If this is all safe, then why the smoke the mirrors? Why the non-responses? The lab and the current administration need to have proper oversight and need to openly communicate the process of demolition.
Being honest is an alternative, a less populated route and just as quick route, and of course just storing things there.
Lastly, the school keeps arresting Runningwolf after returning from Bevatron meetings, so stopping that would be an alternative plan too.
