Newly released video by Humboldt DA: Arcata cops violently arresting protesters 2007

by mangoprotest
Two years after the Peoples Project homeless rights protest in Arcata, April 2007, Humboldt DA Paul Gallegos' office has pressed charges against one protester, resulting in the release of video evidence held by the DA against the protesters. (The protester has been sentenced to pay a fine).
Four segments of the video have been released on U-Tube under the title "Arcata Cops Gone Wild" parts 1,2,3 and 4. This is up close video of Arcata police and Humboldt County Sheriffs violently arresting a group of students and activists protesting Arcatas' notorious anti-homeless laws. One protester is seen going into seizure after a heavy policeman kneeled on his neck.

Newly released video of police brutality in Arcata at a homeless rights protest in April 2007. Two years later protester Dominic von Zabern is scheduled to go to trial on Monday, June 1st, 2009, for "disobeying a police officer", at the Humboldt County Courthouse in Eureka, California. Von Zabern crossed the street to where police painholds were being applied to protesters after one of the arrested protesters went into seizure from being kneeled on by a heavy officer. District Attorney Paul Gallegos' office at first dropped charges against all the protesters, then refiled charges against von Zabern and one other protester and obtained warrants for their arrest. This video clip shows only 3 out of 18 arrests. This newly released video shows the People Project Protest, a homeless rights movement that took place in Arcata CA, in April 2007. This clip shows the protest before the mass arrest of the group took place, only the first arrest is shown. Despite its liberal reputation, Arcata pioneered anti-homeless laws that were eventually adopted by San Francisco and other large cities. This year, 2009, the city council has forced the homeless services center to stop serving lunches, instead using the space for "Homeless Court", a new legal process for all the homeless constantly targeted by the police.

Newly released video of police brutality in Arcata at a homeless rights protest in April 2007. The District Attorneys' video was obtained by a protester who recently still had to face charges of "disobeying a police officer" at the protest over two years ago.

The Arcata cops and Humboldt Sheriffs arrest the remaining protesters in the Peoples Project homeless rights protest, April 2007. At the beginning the cops push their wooden barrier into the crowd, and it falls apart as the crowd pushes back. The arrests involve quite a few dirty tricks, painholds etc, to break the protesters resistance. At the end the cops are followed to their cars by an angry crowd chanting "shame on you!". The arrests took place on the third day of a ten day encampment to protest Arcatas' laws forbidding homeless people to sleep, a violation of a basic human right.
