East Bay | Racial Justicefriends and supporters of David come to court to show opposition to his persecution
On Friday April the 10, friends and supporters of David came to the Alameda County Juvenile Court in Oakland. David has been arrested on January 7 in the demonstrations that followed the Oscar Grant murder. He is the only minor to face felony charges. According to David, he is targeted by the state for being a person of color, a communist (David is part of the Revolution Club), a community organizer, and from east Oakland. The trial was pushed to another date in June. From the moment we entered the building we were being filmed by (I assume) undercover cops. Later, the Oakland police stopped by and took photograph of us. I did not manage to take a picture of that.
David and his lawyer gave interviews to the corp. media. On the right is David’s lawyer Mark R. Vermeulen from the NLG, second to the right is David, David’s mother, and a relative. I don’t remember what was said (there are probably some links to these interviews somewhere) but one thing resonated with me. Mark was making the point that David was arrested and jailed while Mehserle, the cop who killed Oscar, was still free.
