Statement by THE BAY AREA REVOLUTION CLUB
WE ARE ALL OSCAR GRANT!
THE WHOLE DAMN SYSTEM IS GUILTY!

Outraged by the cold-blooded police execution of Oscar Grant, the people have taken to the streets in righteous rebellion. People, who for years have been brutalized, beaten down, and humiliated by the pigs and a ruthless system that doesn’t give a damn for them, reached the limits of what they could stand. On January 7th, 2008, Oakland stood up.

As people stood up, many have also begun to wake up to some very important realities. From slavery to the cellblock, from the KKK to the murdering police – the oppression of Black people has never let up, it’s just changed shape. And the powers-that-be want us to just accept it. Whether it’s Mayor Dellums telling people to calm down and have patience, or as Obama said when the pigs who shot Sean Bell 50 times on his wedding day were acquitted, “We’re a nation of laws, so we respect the verdict.” Now the rulers are working overtime to take people’s attention off of years of stifling oppression at the hands of the state, telling us it’s the “bad protesters”, these “thugs” that are the violent ones.

We shouldn’t try to control people’s outrage or throw cold water on any of this. In fact, it is only because of the resistance, and the threat of even more powerful rebellions, that the pig Mehserle was even charged with murder. What people need to be doing right now is further unleashing people’s initiative to resist these injustices as a key part of building a revolutionary movement.

Only with a revolution aimed at the emancipation of all people, a communist revolution, could we begin to dig up the poisonous weed of the oppression of Black people and build a whole different world – where murdering police are a thing of the past, where white people don’t rule over people of color, where men don’t dominate women, and where one nation doesn’t profit off the misery and exploitation of people around the world. And only by unleashing the consciousness and creativity of the masses – including those so-called “thugs” – changing the world and ourselves in the process, can we make this revolution. This system has no future for the youth… revolution does!

The murder of Oscar Grant shows us that such a revolution is needed now more than ever, and the rebellions that sprung up in the wake of this injustice give us a glimpse of what it looks like when the people on the bottom of society lift their heads and begin to fight back. The Bay Area Revolution Club and Revolution newspaper have been on the front lines of this struggle, indicting this criminal system and calling on people to be emancipators of humanity. Over 150 people have been arrested, including 5 members of the Revolution Club who are now facing charges. If you think the way things are is intolerable and you dream of a different world: read Revolution newspaper each week, dig into the theory and work of Bob Avakian, Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA, and get down with the Bay Area Revolution Club.
