San Francisco | LGBTI / QueerGay Community Joins Pro-Choice March
Photos of some of the LGBQTI contingent at January 24 Pro-Choice/Pro-Gay/Pro-Immigrant Rights Rally and March in San Francisco. The San Diego Sister of Perpetual Indulgence helped the Raging Grannies spiff up their costumes "backstage" at the Music Concourse next to Justin Herman Plaza for the 2009 Pro-Choice Rally. The Grannies offered up songs for LGBQTI and immigrant rights issues from the stage (as well as women's rights to abortion songs)....... today's rally was a combined march of members of many communities.
**Battle Hymn for Transgender Rights** tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic We haven't all had surgery, Transition's where we start. Some bigots say we just like RE-arranging body parts. Our outsides may look different, but we still have the same hearts. When gender's reassigned! CHORUS: No more insults, no more slander! No more right-wing propaganda! Our bodies are our own and we're aware of how they work, When gender's reassigned! **Song for Immigrant Rights** by Granny Gail (tune: Yellow Rose of Texas) Estamos trabajando por la justicia Queremos beneficios para las familias Queremos appoyarles en su buena lucha Vivimos todos juntos en la comunidad When you exploit your workers, You save a buck or two But think how you would feel, If it were done to you When workers have no health care, It's not just their concern It hurts the whole community, When they've nowhere to turn! **INVALIDATE PROP 8!** tune: (Oh My Darlin') Clementine Look around you, see the people Getting married everyday It's our right to wed a loved one So why can't you if you're gay? Equal rights cannot be hindered California knows the way Why would CHURCH GROUPS intervene here Our Supreme Court had its say Join the Grannies and stand up now Sing and shout it out today Join the struggle, fight the battle--Overturn Prop 8 today!

i'm pretty upset to see this caption on this picture. there are large assumptions being made about how the person in the picture identifies. i actually know the person in this pic, and they would not identify as a "bro."
maybe it makes for a more interesting caption, but for a site that explores our varied experiences of oppression, there should be more consciousness about how gendered readings of people's bodies affect us all. always ask before assuming, OR don't make statements like that at all. peace. |
