Date:
Friday, January 09, 2009
Time:
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Event Type:
Court Date
Organizer/Author:
Legal Support
Location Details:
Room 107 Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, 661 Washington Street, Oakland, CA.

Several of the people arrested at Wednesday night's protest against the murder of Oscar Grant have hearings tomorrow at 2pm, room 107, Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, 661 Washington Street.

Please come to show support, but in order to protect the folks getting arraigned from retaliation, the NLG requests that folks dress as "professionally" as possible and refrain from protest activity while inside the courtroom. And please keep your eyes out for similar posts to support folks with hearings in February.

It appears that in addition to the 2 pm arraignments, some arrestees will have hearings at 9am. Please show up at both or either (9am or 2pm) to support them.

Those of us who call Oakland home are fed up with professional "activists" coming from other cities to trash Oakland. Vandalizing our city does not engender support for your cause...if you want to be vandals stay in your own damn city and trash your own home. This case had nothing to do with the city of Oakland or with Oakland PD. If you are so interested in "social justice" you will recognize that every dollar that the city has to spend cleaning up after your "nonviolent" protests is a dollar that is now unavailable for social programs, schools, etc.
Many of the small business owners suffering as a result of your actions have made sacrifices that you can't even imagine to try to create a better life for themselves and for the community - you have no right to jeopardize their livelihood with your mob mentality.
If you TRULY cared about the lives of young black men in the East Bay you would be out in the community trying to stem the violence that claims the lives of 100+ murder victims in Oakland each year.
It will be interesting to see if you will publish this in the interest of "free speech" or if you will censor a dissenting opinion and expose the underlying hypocrisy of your "cause."
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
