East Bay | Environment & Forest DefenseOak grove Struggle Continues
Update on the Oak grove. Three tree sitters remain in the trees. The ground camp has a decent group of people 24 hours a day. But we need more people at the camp and in the trees. We can hold climbing trainings for potential tree sitters. Feel free to stop by the camp at any time. We always need food, equipment and financial donations.
In the past few weeks the tree sitters have received almost no food from us. The police try very hard to stop us. But they do give the tree sitters a minimal amount of water and emergency ration bars. One tree sitter went up on july 6 and then came down a few days ago after a death in the family. Today (7/17/08) the court case between the University and those who want to save the oaks was heard. The university had changed their plan and demanded to be allowed to proceed and cut the trees. The decision has been put over for some time but if the university wins then the day of cutting could come soon. Please be prepared to help defend the trees if this happens. Stop by to help out or just to say hi to the tree sitters at any time. see saveoaks.com for more info People gather for the Sunday (7/13/08) resupply attempt.
