The goals of the journey include strengthening and sharing indigenous culture, uniting indigenous peoples and uniting all peoples -- thereby fulfilling the prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor. Five of the core runners, those who are running the entire route, are from San Diego. One strand of the Northern route will pass through the San Diego Region July 21-27. On July 23, these runners will meet up in Balboa Park with a feeder route from the Mexico-US border -- between the World Beat Center and the Centro Cultural de la Raza. From there, the runners will proceed along with community members to Chican@ Park for a public welcoming ceremony, arriving shortly after 5pm. The fundraiser will feature performers that are immersed in or supportive of indigenous culture in the border region, as well as speakers discussing their experiences as runners in past Peace and Dignity Journeys.
