In 1999, a series of bizarre deaths began unfolding in Russia. Since Vladimir Putin came to power, thirteen Russian journalists have been killed one after another. How has a man so often criticized as czarist, corrupt, despotic, and deceitful managed to uphold the support of the Russian people? The re-emerging Russia is more formidable as an economic power than a military power, but it is not a threat to be dismissed. Journalist Steve LeVine discusses what the nature of this new Russia and its leaders is and how the United States will respond in the years ahead at a delightful evening of refreshments.

Refreshments: 4:30 PM; Program: 5:00-6:00 PM

Appetizers and Program: Members: $12, Nonmembers: $15
