Santa Cruz closes all public space due to low humidity
The park locations cited as being entirely closed include some city parks entirely surrounded by residential and business areas. Santa Cruz has a high population of homeless who are not served by shelters and live in parks and marginal land areas. Shelter space is particularly inadequate during summer, when some winter church shelters close. There have been three major fires near Santa Cruz this year due to dry and windy la nina conditions.
