One has been hanging over the sidewalk all morning and will be expected to hang there all day. The judge is supposed to make her decision about whether or not the trees can be cut down or not tomorrow morning. The UC is jumping the gun with a surprise raid.

UC police have moved into the tree-sit and are cutting branches, ropes, throwing up barricades, blocking the streets and sidewalks. Apparently UC Berkeley is not waiting for the judges to make their decision tomorrow - once the trees are cut, no court can do anything. PLEASE go the the tree sit NOW - it's at the top of Durant on Piedmont Ave These courageous people have been saving these beautiful oaks for almost 2 years now! PLEASE come stand by them if you possible are able! They often come to support our actions! Together we WILL SAVE THE TREES NOW! Comments (Hide Comments)

A small update on the scene is the arborists hired by UCB cut ropes, cut down platforms, food, supplies, water, gear, banners. Most the sitters belongings are on the ground but the tree sitters are still up. No physical confrontations yet. Former mayor Shirley Dean came up there and told media this is wrong!
UCB has a cherry picker on site and other gear, have put up many barricades, recently blocked off the street. Lots of people there.

There really was never any substantial environmental reason for this whole tree-sit. The university, students and staff need the new building. 38 trees will come down, many more replanted, the lives of 500 students and staff will be protected with the new seismic-proof structure.
Can we focus on real environmental issues and causes now?

It is always "suggested" or "reported" but never proven that the site is a Native American burial ground.
However, if the tree-sitters truly believe it is, then I have to ask: Is this how you treat a sacred area? Dumping shit and urine all over the burial ground keeps it sacred? And the tree-sitters that say the police are too aggressive, well only the tree-sitters have done any physical assaulting -- hitting arborists and biting one of them. THAT is why that sitter was yanked out and arrested. She freakin bit another human being. The sitters lost all their moral high ground today. When it comes down to it -- they were the first to be physical and resort to assault. When they get their heads beat in, it will be a result of their own actions.

Sherman, are you an Indian? If not, shut the fuck up. Hell even if you are, shut the fuck up. Piss and shit is SUPPOSED to go on the ground. It's meant to fertilize and return nutrients to the soil. Where does an animal in the woods go? Toilets aren't an invention of nature. You're upset about this? Get real. If you think this is a reason to beat someone's head in, you have serious issues.
Furthermore, I'm glad she fought back--god forbid women fight back when they're attacked by aggressive men.

I am of Apache decent and that person Zachary Running Wolf DOES NOT SPEAK FOR ME OR MY PEOPLE! I'm sorry, but dumping urine and feces onto any person is wrong. I don't care who you are or what your cause is. Those people that have gotten urine dumped on them have families and children. I'm sorry, but the tree sitters need to come down and work on real problems of this world such as poverty, wars, and REAL global challenges. To tell somebody to, "Shut the F up" is really telling of your mental maturity and should be an embarassing statement to make, would your mother approve?

The university currently exploits and tortures over 40,000 animals in the name of "research."
A new facility is being constructed at University Avenue and Oxford Way, known as the Li Ka-Shing Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences, that would expand the existing animal facility by SEVENTY PERCENT. "Apache"Joe, you don't think climate change, corporate domination, and destruction of indigenous cultures are real world problems?
