San Francisco | Arts + ActionMay Day Reclaim The Streets
A fun march and dance party broke off from the Immigrants rights march. Public space should belong to the public for group activities but so often it is just for the lone commuters to take up. So on May First we took over some streets for joy and for revolution. It was fun and empowered many of the younger people with a sense that they could be part of an organization that dicided to do what it wanted even if it was out of the normal bounds.
Everyone should come to the bigger and better Reclaim The Streets on May 31 starting at 12:00 in Dolores Park.

RTS leaves the immigrants right rally at city hall.
Taking the streets for our march.
Cops forced us onto the sidewalk three times but then let us be after a number of blocks.
We passed this car and something had to be done. It was Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Think of the immigrants.
Nice pig star on the logo.
Bubble blower in front of sightseeing bus.
The sound system leads us up the hill to the Haight.
Dancing into Golden Gate Park.
Cheerfully we pass along. many joined our march.
In the park a bus opened up ans set out a large sound system.
The street was blocked for revelry.
Chalk brought out the artist in many and was a fun way to redefine space.
Nice messages.
So the cops came but there were held back for half an hour by double dutch jump ropes. We have to remember that next time.
Some where better at jumping and some better at having fun.
Dancing continued.
The police unplug the speakers. This had to happen three times before we quit.
Police force everyone onto the sidewalk. After a good long march and over an hour in the street we moved onto the grass and some people danced into the night when the sound was set up just a little ways away. This was a good little action.
One guy had a US flag bandana. It just had to go.
