Great direct action. beautiful, people, just beautiful!!!

Three protesters are tethered together 150 feet up on the bridge, with banners across the cables that read, "One World One Dream," and "Free Tibet '08."

The demonstrators unfurled a giant banner reading "One World, One Dream" and "Free Tibet 08," while at least one of the daredevil protesters could be seen carrying a Tibetan flag

Four people had been arrested by California Highway Patrol, while the three protesters remained suspended from the bridge. One of the climbers told a local radio station in a telephone interview conducted from his perch that he was part of group Students for a Free Tibet.

This is an amazing show of world solidarity against repression -- London, Paris, SF . . . already the torch was ground to a halt despite 5000 police on the streets of Paris.

We need to keep up the resistance.

The banner hangs are amazing and inspirational to the world. Thanks to all who sacrificed.

Our friends who risked so much for this dramatic action are facing multiple charges (including felony conspiracy), and we are desperately fundraising for bail. If you can help - please visit http://www.studentsforafreetibet.org/

As the Olympic Torch travels the world – massive protests from the Tibetan and Burmese communities have drawn international attention to China ’s lack of human rights and press freedom. In recent weeks, Chinese police have reportedly killed over 100 Tibetans who were peacefully protesting in their communities, and their human rights actions have become worse in response to being Olympic hosts.

In Paris , thousands protested the torch – hanging giant banners from the Eiffel Tower , forcing authorities to cut the torch run short and extinguishing the torch three times. In the UK , dozens were arrested in acts of civil disobedience, including a banner hang off the Westminster Bridge in front of Parliament. And in two days here in San Francisco , thousands will flood the streets from across North America – raising their voices in objection to China ’s attempt to use the Olympics to hide their atrocities in Tibet . Massive civil disobedience and non-violent direct action is expected – as the Tibetan community, their allies, and committed people for justice rise up.

So how did people get up it to hang a banner?

One option is that there really is no Homeland Security regimen, how many of billions of dollars later. Where'd the money go-- into torture in Iraq?

Or else, the government wanted those banners up there.

Oh, BTW, when you turn next to the boycott movement, why not add in a "Free Afghanistan" component. That'll let you draw on the American tradition of Olympics boycotts:

This was not an impulse act- it was planned far in advance- Homeland security has shot to kill orders if they feel the bridge is in jeopardy- our first line of defense was explaining who we were and why we were doing this, and that we were not threatening the security or the saftey of those on the bridge.

Blocking traffic is so yesterdays news- we are at a critical junction and we need to make our points now!

We're struggling over that "junction" this very moment.
