Actions at Military Recruitment Centers and Caltrain Stations to Protest the War
February 15th was Iraq Moratorium Day #6. The Iraq Moratorium is a community- based nationwide campaign to organize public displays of opposition to the war in Iraq on the third Friday of each month. Iraq Moratorium events include actions such as wearing black ribbons, calling Congress to say "Bring Home Our Troops," and coming together for protests and outreach events in cities all over the US. The call to action states, "Now, 70% of Americans are against the war in Iraq. While the political process is moving very slowly, we must find new ways to end American military involvement in Iraq."
In the Bay Area, actions took place in several cities. In Berkeley, Friday was a Day of Resistance at Marine Recruitment Station. The nonviolent civil resistance began with a 7:00am rally, and there was a youth speakout at 12:00 noon. In Mountain View, a Picket and Protest to Counter Military Recruitment took place from 12pm to 1pm at the new Military Recruiting Center at El Camino Real and Grant Road (Hwy. 237). Antiwar Leafletting took place at Caltrain Stations on the Peninsula during the morning commute. Organizers say, "Not available on Friday morning? You can also leaflet at your local farmer's market or downtown shopping area on weekends; the Iraq Moratorium project is trying to get the word out as widely as possible, anywhere we can."
