The majority include Jane Kim, Kim-Shree Maufas, Jill Wynns, Norman Yee and Hydra Mendoza. Do not ever vote for these people. This reactionary school board also voted to repeal "a new district policy that would have prevented students from earning physical education credit for JROTC beginning this fall." This excellent policy would have caused "the enrollment in JROTC" to "have dropped dramatically" as it should. We need some serious peace candidates for the school board immediately. And the excuse that the military "teaches" US history and the Constitution is an insult. The students should be taught the horrors of the military in their regular history classes and the Constitution is already taught in those same regular history classes. And we certainly do not need any uniforms in our public schools. When there is serious education taking place in the schools, the clothing attitude improves accordingly. One of the biggest problems in the public schools is the poverty of the schoolchildren. One way to improve learning and attitude is to guarantee free top quality breakfast and lunch to every single school child, regardless of ability to pay.

A good description of the horrors of JROTC may be found at Beyond Chron's article, "JROTC Supporters Threaten JROTC Opponents" by Marc Norton, Nov. 22, 2006 at

The replacement for the reactionary military is a top quality public school education for all that includes teaching peace, including but not limited to teaching art, music, dance exercise, literature and foreign languages, with art, music and dance exercise being taught in every single grade from Kindergarten through 12th grade, foreign language teaching starting in grade 2 (age 7) and literature starting in grade 7 (age 12), and every grade thereafter for foreign language and literature. It is culture that makes us human and humanity is to be respected and supported with our tax dollars. The military is all about killing human beings to make the rich richer as that is the only reason ithe military exists A soldier by definition is a paid, professional killer; that is why they are taught to use a gun. How many horror stories of the US military murdering the people of the world, and as the economic crisis worsens in this country, brought home to murder us when we protest will it take to get the San Francisco School Board to kick the fascist military out of our schools? After all, the National Guard has been used to attack ghetto rebellions and the US military perpetrated the 9/11 Inside Job to maxmize the profits of the capitalist class and promtoe fascism at home. It is also the US military that is perpetrating the fascist torture horrors at Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and many other death camps around the world. Remember, we pay for all of this and then we read that many schoolchildren in San Francisco cannot read or write or do arithmetic well enough to obtain a high school diploma, much less go to college. The litmus test issue for all school board candidates must be to eliminate JROTC from the San Francisco schools immediately.
