Emeryville Mayor Hits, Kills Pedestrian

Emeryville Mayor Ken Bukowski struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday evening, NBC11 reported. Emeryville police told NBC11 the incident happened around 9 p.m. on the 5300 block of Hollis Street.

Bukowski was driving a sport utility vehicle northbound on Hollis when his vehicle hit the unidentified man.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that the pedestrian was crossing the street when he was struck.

The victim was transported to Highland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It is not clear whether the mayor will face any charges.

Ken Bukowski is one of the biggest bicycle advocates in the east bay, seriously. I'm on a bicycle coalition email list and he posts a lot there. I'm surprised he owns a car, given what his viewpoints generally are. We could easily guess that he bicycles 75% of the time.
