Central Valley Political Prisoner Now Needs More Health Care In Addition to Vegan Food
Eric McDavid told his supporters on November 23rd that he had ended his
two-week long hunger strike as part of his struggle to get vegan food. He wrote, "my intent was 2 B treated humanely in an inhumane system, perhaps that was my mistake..." Supporters write that the jail had seemed to
be responding to phone calls in support of Eric's demands. However, Eric is still requesting vegan food and
medical care from the jail, and supporters are still calling the jail in an effort to convince them to give in to
these demands.
Eric decided last week that he will finish the commissary food he has left in his cell, but will no longer be ordering items from commissary. This means that he will, once again, be subsisting off of what little food he can pull from his trays. This is what he was eating for the two months before his recent hunger strike - he lost 20 pounds and suffered a bout of pericarditis during that time. Eric has still not received blood work and has not seen a cardiologist, the doctor who would be able to diagnose the cause of his heart condition. When Eric was last weighed by the doctors at the jail, he weighed a mere 147 pounds. The jail continues to claim that it does not have the resources to supply Eric with vegan food, in spite of the fact that he had been given vegan food for over a year.
