Students at University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) have been occupying spaces high up in redwood trees and on the ground since November 7th on Science Hill, site of a proposed Biomedical Sciences facility. The space below the redwoods is transforming from a parking lot into a temporary autonomous zone. Meetings are events take place every day and students enjoy the space for doing their school work. This year, anti-colonialists plan to celebrate an all day Thanks-Vegan Holiday Sit-in and Potluck at the liberated community space in resistance to UCSC expansion.  no-biomedical_11-13-07.jpg The Temporary Autonomous Zone (TAZ) describes the socio-political tactic of creating temporary spaces that elude formal structures of control.

Awesome work and thanks for the updates. UC Berkeley is planning construction of a 200,000 square feet Biomedical Sciences Facility that will provide a 70 percent expansion of the Northwest Animal Facility.
We have to stop their sick plans in Santa Cruz, Berkeley, and at all of the UC's! Keep it up. legal update?

are there sill people in jail?? been released? charges?
support? solidarity? none of us are free until we all are... caged in a cell, stuck in an autonomous zone... grow, spread out, diversify, attack! update on charges

I do not think anyone was taken to jail. I was told that all people arrested were cited and released. I am not sure what charges they face, but they are working with legal representation. Thanks for the support!

UCB Tree-sitters dig in

Bright & noisy gas-generator powered lights illuminate grove all night long. UCB seeking to cut branches over sidewalk to further isolate tree-sitters. |
