Event Type: Training
Racism is a poison that affects white people
negatively, but white people are in a unique position
to benefit from it. This contradiction challenges all
of us to confront our own feelings about race. How can
we move beyond hang-wringing and easily-professed
solidarity? How can we be more effective allies? How
can we_______? What do words like ally, guilt,
privilege, and identity mean to you?
Let's re-start a dialogue, and explore what white
identity might look like, what anti-racism means to us
in this community. Discussion, reading group, planning
meeting, curriculum collection...

Requirements:
All are more than welcome, but the discussion will be
focused towards the experiences of white-skinned
people. Bring a book to suggest, a film to share, and
a readiness to confront the racism within and in the
communities we inhabit.

John Brown committed himself to direct action against slavery, including
work with the underground railroad and resistance against slavery's
expansion. Eventually he was executed by the state as a traitor for his
role in a raid on a military outpost in an attempt to procure more arms
for the battle against slavery and slave owners.

Way to keep the distinction between "white people" and "everyone else." This is a perpetuation of racism in it's own right. Constantly making a distinction between whites and everyone else makes the racism victims even more marginalized. Hopefully you white folk can figure out a super good plan to end racism once and for all.
