Tens of thousands of citizens of the State of California are being sprayed under the cover of night with chemicals that are in part undisclosed. These sprayings are done not to protect citizens from a clear and present public health danger, but rather to protect special interests without due diligence in addressing potential health concerns.
Sign this petition if you believe citizens of the State of California have a right not to be sprayed from the air with chemicals if they choose not to without proof of a clear and present public health danger. Further, by signing, you are expressing your belief that any mandatory aerial spraying of chemicals must be shown to address a clear and present public health danger, and must be voted on and supported by the people in the area to be sprayed.
This sounds like common sense, so why the need for such a petition?
Do you know that tens of thousands of California citizens are being sprayed with chemicals under the cover of night? And there are plans to not just continue spraying, but to expand it!
Do you know that these sprayings are being ordered by the Secretary of Agriculture and you are currently legally powerless to stop this?
Do you know that your mayor and local assemblymen are also legally powerless to stop it?
Think this is impossible in a democratic society like the United States of America? Think again.
Citizens of Monterey County have been sprayed with chemicals, the contents of which have not been fully disclosed. Why? to destroy a moth. If this sounds incredible, read the following letter from Assemblymember John Laird of the 27th district to the Secretary of Agriculture demanding explanation. http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a27/moth.htm In his letter on September 24, 2007 you will see a dialog between the Assemblymember and the Secretary on this issue.
The bottom line is that the Secretary of Agriculture had the power and used it to conduct arial spraying of chemicals which at least in part were of unknown composition over urban areas of California against public outcry and concern.
We need laws that empower our Assemblymembers to protect us, and to ensure that we are not subjected to chemicals against our individual rights without an immediate health danger, due process, and a public vote.
