THE BLUE PLANET RUN IS A GLOBAL RELAY EVENT INTENDED TO SPONSOR PROJECTS PROVIDING AID TO SOME OF THE OVER 1 BILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE THAT LACK REGUALR ACCESS TO CLEAN DRINKING WATER. A COALITION OF GROUPS THAT ALSO SUPPORT GREATER ACCESS TO POTABLE WATER PROTESTED AT THE RUN'S STOPOVER IN SAN FRANCISCO'S JUSTIN HERMAN PLAZA TODAY. THEY SEEK TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL TRACK RECORD OF THE RUN'S MAIN SPONSOR, DOW CHEMICAL. RezZ SACHAROFF REPORTS.

Unsafe water kills 5 times as many children as HIV!

Great idea - go runners! I hope the Blue Planet Run raises US awareness of unsafe water and inadequate sanitation around the world - combined these two problems are the world's largest public health challenge. Unsafe water kills five times as many kids as does HIV, and twice as many as malaria, yet few people in the developed are aware of this.
