Trustees to Meet on Closing Campus and Evicting Remaining Students
D-Q University in Davis, CA, California's only tribal college, has faced an on-going struggle between students and the Board of Trustees since January 2005, when incompetence and negligence on the part of the former school administration cost the college its accreditation. In the months that followed, a group of D-Q students, with community support, vowed to stay on campus and take charge of their own education, turning the campus into a healthy, self-sustaining and self-determined living environment.
The students are now facing removal from campus by the Board of Trustees, which denies that D-Q has any students. On June 30, the Board will vote to refuse current students housing on campus. Meanwhile, the students have been asking for representation on the Board so they can have input on decisions about the future of the university. The students, D-Q's sole residents for over two years, are now seeking support and witnesses during a possible eviction process, and are demanding the right to stay on campus with or without the Board's approval.
