UC Hunger Strikers in the Baytree Plaza

On May 16th, students at UC Santa Cruz were in the Baytree Plaza to spread information about the University of California's Board of Regents and their ties to the management of the Los Alamos and Livermore nuclear laboratories. Ashley and Tosh are two undergraduate students at UCSC that are part of the 44 University of California students on a hunger strike to demand that the UC Board of Regents sever their ties to the the laboratories which are producing new nuclear weapons.

It is imperative that the UC Regents stop providing a fig leaf of academic respectability to the creation of the world's most toxic and deadly weapons, and instead use their position of political leverage to spur the US toward genuine nuclear disarmament, democratization, and demilitarization.

As such, I, ____________________, hereby pledge my solidarity with the hunger strikers across the UC and demand that the UC Regents withdraw fully and immediately from their contracts to manage the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Lawrence Livermore Laboratory on the grounds that the Reliable Replacement Warhead program and LANL's ongoing preparations to conduct plutonium pit manufacturing both clearly violate Article VI of the 1970 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
