On Thursday, April 26th, Students at SFSU engaged in a five hour long march today to protest the impending fee hikes as well as class size and funding cuts to EOP programs. Students also protested the administration in general for its lack of support for students. Students gathered on Malcolm X plaza beginning at 10:00AM. After a large number of students gathered they set off in a march through campus buildings. They marched through the Humanities building, followed by Burk Hall and the HSS building. All the way students carried signs displaying messages such as "Hold the CSU Accountable" and "Stop Fee Hikes", Chanting slogans and cheers, and drumming as loud as possible. The March returned to Malcolm X Plaza briefly before continuing to the Administration building. Students stood outside the administration building for a short period of time before the chant of "Let's Go In" rose from the crowd. There was a moment of hesitation before the crowd plunged into the building. Police presence was light to non-existent so students filled the building. Unfortunately the Fifth floor which houses the President Corrigan's office was locked and Corrigan was not at school. After the building fire alarm went off twice students made their way outside and regrouped before heading into the lobby. Students used the central stairs as a stage and let multiple speakers from the campus community talk. Afterwards the floor was turned over to students. By about 4:00PM the protest had dispersed. The general attitude of people present believe that the protest was a great success.

SEVERAL HUNDRED STUDENTS participated in this walkout (including me!), marching through academic buildings and making a total ruckus. Then, even though the campus police, our Dean of Students, and others did not want the march to enter the Administration Building, it entered anyway.
Our demands can be summed in one concise sentence - We want our university to be run less like a business and more like the social service it's supposed to be. SFSU's charter promises to educate low-income students and provide the service of education. Yet like many other social services in this country, parts of it are being privatized left and right... The core of this US global domination machine is being bled to pay for more war and conquest.
We weren't able to reach President Corrigan on the fifth floor today... but we will be back. We are boarding buses to Sacramento to lobby our legislators on May 7. We are going to march again on the Administration Buidling. THIS IS NOT OVER AND WE WILL BE HEARD.
