Ramon Leal served four years on active duty as a communications specialist in Germany from July, 1996 to July, 2000. He served in the National Guard from 2000 to January, 2005. He was in Iraq from June, 2003 to April, 2004, in hotspots like Abu Ghraib. He was one of the soldiers who blew the whistle on abuse of prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison.

“The company manned the entry gate, did external security, guarded 4 prison areas, and the inprocessing/outprocessing area. As we had our work cut out for us, it's easy to see why I spent more time guarding prisoners at the inprocessing/outprocessing area than working on radios. My unit wasn't involved in any of the notorious events, but that was due to our high visibility, not to any good discipline among the troops.” Ramon Leal

Ramon Leal is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War,
and currently Vice President of the Bay Area Chapter.

If anyone has connections with currently enlisted men and women, Ramon is very interested in speaking privately to persons currently serving in the military.

At the event on March 24, we will be raising funds for the IVAW and specifically for the legal defense of Agustin Aguayo who is in prison in Germany, far from his family, facing a sentence of up to seven years for refusing to deploy to Iraq a second time.
