And Afganistan
by Sean Dolan

The banner in the top photo should have added ''and Afghanistan ''. I'm glad the Army refused one of Watada's requests . that he be allowed to fight in Afghanistan . I'm glad he's not part of that brutal occupation force in that ''illegal and unjust war''.
I support Lt. Watada completely in his refusal to fight in Iraq . I wish i could be there at Ft. Lewis to show solidarity. But supporting his stance on Iraq shouldn't prevent our movement from stating that he is wrong on Afghanisan. By remaining silent we imply agreement and perhaps weaken our effectiveness in defending the (sure to come ) Military resisters who will refuse to ''serve '' in Kabul .
The antiwar movement a couple of hours north of Ft. Lewis certainly understands that . Canadians strongly want all US troops out of Iraq AND all Canadian , NATO, and Us troops out of Afghanistan .
It's about time our movement show some courage and defy the Democrats who want to expand the '' Afghan Front' and redeploy troops from Iraq to Afghanista

Physical difficulties inhibited my participation. But I want to thank you all for the
energy, time and dedication in supporting our troops in returning home and in
being there for Lt. Watada. Thank you! magi

In the caption above, we read: "Active duty Army Spc. Suzanne Swift (right) attended Lt. Watada's trial with Iraq Veterans Against the War Executive Director Kelly Dougherty (middle). The Army retaliated against Spc. Swift this evening by taking away all of her civilian attire."

Suzanne Swift continues to be punished and has had her human rights abuses in the military denied and ignored. We need to continue to support her in her efforts to be discharged from the Army with an honorable discharge and her medical benefits.

Much peace,
Kim
