Josh Wolf, Imprisoned at FCI Dublin, Still Rejects Grand Jury Coercion to Turn in Footage
On Tuesday, February 6th, a noontime press conference in support of Josh Wolf was held on the steps of San Francisco City. Organizers say that Josh has become the longest-imprisoned journalist who has ever been held on contempt charges in the United States. His attorneys recently filed a "Grumbles" motion, which said that the continued imprisonment of Josh amounts to punishment rather than coercion, since Josh has proved that he is not coercible. The motion for release from non-coercive imprisonment was turned down by US District Court Judge William Alsup, and Josh remains in prison in FCI Dublin. Representatives of the Free Josh Coalition have been lobbying Representatives in Washington, DC on Josh's behalf.
Speakers and attendees at the press conference included Pueng Vongs of the Society of Professional Journalists, Jeff Perlstein of Media Alliance, David Greene from the First Amendment Project, and local journalist and radio producer Sarah Olson.
