San Francisco | Anti-WarPhotos from Saturday's Action Against Torture at Union Square
About 100 activists gathered at Union Square on January 13 to demand closure of the military prison at Guantanamo and reparations to the people unjustly imprisoned there and at other illegal U.S. detention centers around the world. ![]() tableau-sm.jpg The January 13 action was one of hundreds around the world to mark the fifth anniversary of the opening of the special military prison at Guantanamo Bay. Over 400 men and boys remain imprisoned at Guantanamo, many for almost five years. None have ever been put on trial. Very few have been charged with any crime. The action also highlighted torture in U.S. prisons.
