Inside the California Egg Industry: An Undercover Investigation
Ninety-five percent of all eggs in this country are produced by hens in cramped and unhealthy battery cages, in dark and rank warehouses holding up to 125,000 birds each. A significant share of the nation's eggs come from California's Central Valley.
East Bay Animal Advocates has produced a 6 minute documentary from undercover footage shot in such warehouses. Footage includes shocking conditions at egg facilities in Sonoma, Santa Clara, Merced and San Diego counties. After a screening in Oakland and Bay Area TV news coverage, Indybay viewers are the first to have internet access to the full video.
Anyone who is concerned with animal welfare, or even interested in learning about the conditions in which their eggs are produced, should watch this short video.

The standard treatment of hens violates Section 597t of the California State Penal Code, which requires that confined animals have adequate exercise space.
In order to expose this blatant violation and publicly ask why local enforcement of 597t is largely absent in California, East Bay Animal Advocates (EBAA) invites everyone to share this video with friends and family and get involved in helping to end these terrible conditions for hens once and for all.
