Families impacted by Police Shootings to Share Concerns
At the Justice Review Committee of the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission

On Thursday October 21, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. at 70 W. Hedding Street, West Wing, Basement, Heritage Room, San Jose, CA 95110, the Justice Review Committee of the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission will hear from members of the community regarding the recent rash of officer involved shootings in Santa Clara County. Members of the Rudy Cardenas Family, Bich-Cau Thi Tran Family, and Zaim Bojcic family will attend the meeting and share their concerns.

Speakers at the meeting will also address the use of tasers/stun guns by law enforcement. In the last two police shootings in San Jose tasers were deployed but were not effective. Members of the Coalition for Justice and Accountability, which formed after the tragic death of Bich-Cau Thi Tran last year, the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation, Amnesty International, and Justice for Rudy will also be in attendance.

Rudy Cardenas was shot and killed by State Law Enforcement Agent Michael Walker earlier this year and an open grand jury, on July 28, 2004, found sufficient evidence to bring
manslaughter charges against Walker. Zaim Bojcic, a Bosnian refugee, was shot and killed by a San Jose Police
Officer on September 26, 2004 over a smoking dispute outside a Starbucks Coffee Shop.
