Pictures From The June 5th G8 Breakaway March

Several hundred protesters marched up Embarcadero starting at Justin Herman Plaza a little after 2PM. After five or six blocks the police forced everyone onto the sidewalk and arrested a few people after they stepped into the street. The protest went all the way up to Pier 39, but the police blocked the entrances and told protesters they would be arrested if they entered. The tourists at Pier 39 were not allowed to leave by the police until the protest had left the area. The march then looped on back streets to the Embarcadero and went up the sidewalk to Justin Herman Plaza. After the protesters rejoined the larger anti-war protest the police rushed in and tried to arrest someone. Protesters yelled at the police and the police line formed near the ANSWER stage. After perhaps ten minutes the police charged the crowd throwing three young men on the ground (the police stomped on one young man's head leaving a bloody mark above his right eye) After that the crowd slowly dispersed.

"Dennis Martel was the guy in charge of the mass arrest of 279 people back in '95 in SF during a march in support of prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal -- the cops surrounded us, having given no order to disperse. Many passers-by were swept up & held in jail with the rest of us. We were all eventually released after three days in jail, with all charges dropped -- they basically wanted our photos & fingerprints & names & information. And now, Martel continues with his nasty tactics... "

I was the only one there when they were released
maybe you should show some solidarity and show up
and SUPPORT the people who were arrested

instead of spending all your time ripping on my friends
Maybe you should try calling NLG or the info hotline

It's not as though the state doesn't have every shred of information about us already. They know who we are and what we do, our actions are well documented. Sure I've had my house searched by cops before, I've been detained so that police to verify my identity (completeley unprovoked), etc... they know my first and last name, they know my social security number, they know where I live, they even recognize my face... it really does not bother me if my first name is made public... honestly, how many "Ben's" are there in San Francisco alone?

Sure I believe in anonymity, and solidarity, but its only value (from my standpoint) is when dealing with the media, because the state knows everything about me that there is to know. Our blocs aren't organized enough that we all look the same, so the only value is superficial solidarity.

"Protest Warriors" you guys are full of shit. You go in groups to stop other people's right to free speech. You say, "oh they're breaking the law," and if they are it's none of your business, is it. It is the police's business. Why don't you you guys go get a life and leave other people alone. Wow, I'm impressed you're big men, pretending to be soldiers, how cute.

Well, it should be fairly obvious that the Protest Warriors have no right to protest or demonstrate in support of their beliefs.

BTW, I'm having trouble deciphering the first word of the First Amendment.
