Direct Action to Stop the War-sponsored Education, Living Wages, and Healthcare &151; Not Warfare! campaign to mark the one-year anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq and the subsequent shutdown of downtown S.F. by an estimated 20,000 people jamming the gears of empire. Events included early morning action at war-profiteer Bechtel headquarters in S.F., Housing Action near the Civic Center in S.F., and a rally at the Superior Court in Oakland to highlight, prior to its one-year anniversary, last year's violent break-up of the community picket of anti-union, war-profiteers ADL and SSA at the Port of Oakland.

These 4 videos (first is 1:17 min) cover the march from Betchel down Market through to the Housing Action on Page Street. First video includes Seattle's Infernal Noise Brigade and shows how, while defying police several times by remaining on or returning to Market Street rather than the sidewalks, the group got split in half obeying traffic lights.

See http://www.indybay.org/news/2004/04/1677204.php for a few photos from the final Direct Action later that day in Oakland.

several people were assaulted with batons -- http://indybay.org/news/2004/03/1674110.php -- a couple of arrests were made for unknown reason, and the police futilely tried to corral people back on to the sidewalk just before the march turned to take all of Page Street for the Housing Action
