![]() 20040407_0612.jpg ...and maybe realizes that it is better to accomodate the free speech rights of demonstrators/picketers than to violently attack them, especially with 50 federal civil rights lawsuits pending against OPD for injuries sustained in last year's police riot, not to mention the notorious mention in a recent U.N. report. The Port of Oakland shut down early that Wednesday to avoid controntation, so while it was a ghost town, apart from protesters and a smattering of police (not in riot gear with weapons this time), the picket was effective in shutting down the war profiteers, if only momentarily, and in showing OPD that protesters will no be intimidated by police violence.
