May Day Is Pay Back Day
International Worker's Day
May 1st is International Workers' Day, a day to celebrate resistance to capitalism. Working and poor people now face layoffs, massive social cutbacks (especially in health care and education), evictions and homelessness, police repression and endless war. This May Day there were Actions in San Francisco and Berkeley.
May Day in Berkeley: Beginning around 7pm, people marched throughout the city for about an hour, at which point torches were lit. However the police immediately confiscated them and the crowd was separated. Two people were arrested, and the crowd continued toward University & Shattuck for a May Pole dance. Eventually people gathered at the jail in solidarity. As the crowd approached, the police blocked off the street and formed a police line in front of the jail, and arrested another person. There were three arrests total for the night.
