Glide splits up the family,
On Mother’s day
By David Soma

Sunday afternoon, and Mother’s day at Glide. People were lined up all the way to Jones Street and around the corner. For today in honor of Mother’s day, Glide would be serving a chicken dinner. There were a number of families, and even more Mothers. One of the Glide security people walked up the line and began handing out flowers to all the Moms. What a change this is from the old days when there was pushing and fighting, and disorganization on the part of the people who run the line. “This” I though “was nice”. And then it happened. It was kind of a blast from the past when Head cook Carl Mosley came up and announced that the mothers would be served separately and in another dining room.

“But what about my husband we want to eat together” said one woman holding a baby on her arm. Mosley flailed his arms saying “Mothers on that side”, and then he scurried back into the kitchen.

It kind of reminded me of the days of old when Cecil’s son Al Williams ran the food program. I once watched Al body slam an old drunk man to the ground because of would not move out of the front doorway fast enough. Back then I was a volunteer working in the kitchen. About 12 to 15 of us used to show up a hour before breakfast was to be served, we would set the table, set out the chairs, and do what ever else was needed so that the food could be served. I noticed many injustices back in those days. Most of the volunteers were poor and homeless, and volunteering seemed to help their self-esteem. What really bothered me then was that the staff treated the volunteers, and the clients like dirt. They would scream at them to stay in line or to “eat it and beat it” so that they could bring more people in. In those days the volunteers were not allowed to eat until the public had eaten, and the kitchen cleaned. I remember the last day I volunteered; we had finished our assignments and were standing in line waiting for the floor to dry. For some reason cook Carl Mosley served up the plates of bacon and eggs, and left them on the counter with instructions that they were not to be given out until the floor had dried. It was a big floor, and so the 14 or so people who had worked all morning with no food or coffee, had to wait another 20 minutes before they could eat.

When it was our turn I sat across from a man who was doing his community service work at Glide. When the tray of food was put in front of us he just looked at it and shook his head. He put his hand on the now cold eggs and shook his head again. “There’s no love in this meal” he said.

That one statement seemed to sum up the feelings of many poor and homeless people whom had no choice but to go through the Glide line.

Today in 2002 things have changed at Glide and for the better. Al Williams who ran the food program is gone. {ANYBODY ASKING WHY?}

The people who are running it today are doing a much better job. Kudos to the people in office 100. Also much can be said for the professionals who now run and staff the security force. They are for the most part courteous, and polite, and under John Powels direction even Glides busiest days are handle with ease.

But from time to time we may still have to endure some leftovers, may their retirement party come soon.

Glide's Cecil Williams & Election Fraud
by San Francisco Voter

Glide Church, led by Cecil Williams, is a long-time member of the Democratic Party machine's election fraud team, and was very active in the 49er Stadium Swindle election of June 3, 1997 and both of Willie Brown's mayor's races, 1995 and 1999, the second being clearly a fraudulent election with Brown being elected with 40% of the vote plus election fraud. Cecil Williams and Willie Brown are a long-time election fraud team, going at least as far back as the People's Temple days of the 1970s, which was also part of the Democratic Party's election fraud team.

The Democratic Party, like the Republican Party, is a capitalist party. The purpose of the Democratic Party is to keep the socialists out of office and to thus continue the oppression and exploitation of the workingclass. Once the Democrats are in office, they carry out the same anti-workingclass agenda as the Republican Party.

Religion is of course an opiate of the workingclass, and all preachers, priests, rabbis and the like are hustlers and parasites, who take people's money on the basis of superstitious lies so they do not have to work for a living. The con game of these parasites is no different from the con game of the capitalist politicians. They are all parasites, all anti-workingclass. Either vote for workingclass candidates who are not Democrat-Republicans, or skip that position. The propositions are worth your vote.

Sounds like things are improving at Glide....I have always thought that they did more to perpetuate the humiliation of the homeless than to counteract it...but his is true of many organizations that serve the homeless....why can't there be a group of "witnesses" ...consumers and other citizens who can stand by during meal times to make sure abuses like the one perpetuated by Al, who was no doubt trained by Uncle Dusty , do not continue....i know...i'm dreaming
Glide really HAS improved

Word from the Supes at City Hall was that Glide's dining program has improved since the city dropped some GA contracted programs. The Willie Brown patronage contracts to Cece made Glide flush, but they badly strained Glide's ability to provide services. Word on the street has been that Glide dining services to the needy have definitely improved, and that Glide's employees are treating Dining guests much better.

Glide has always had a reputation with the needy as serving downright awful food in an environment close to being an inmate in San Quentin. If you are starving and poor in San Francisco you get your choice. You can get poorly cooked bad food served in an almost unclean small basement at Glide. But you get relative safety and law and order.

Or you can get superior fully nutritious almost restaurant cuisine at St. Anthony's served in an almost immaculately clean environment. But you must pick your way through the legions of drug pushers and defend yourself and family from the angry out of control drug addicts which St. Anthony's allows to squat and defecate around its dining room.

It is nice though to see Glide is trying to improve as the number of homeless, needy and even starving San Franciscans increases every day.

POVERTY PIMPS

Cecil Williams loves the poor.
What would he do without them?
Pope Cecil X

Can anyone really deny that Cece has not turned Glide into almost the same type of Jim Jones religious cult which preys on the poor? How many other Methodist Churches plaster billboard size pictures of the Pastor's image, and that of his wife everywhere to remind all who is really the CEO, Pastor and God of the poor? Christ! Even resident's
of Glide's modern residential unit for the poor must dutifully pay obeisance to a bill board size image of Saint Cecil Williams every time they come into the lobby. That image alone could rivel a Vatican frescoe of a noted Saint.

And if you have ever watched Cece and his wife Janice Mirikitani getting into their fully tricked out black Lexus, coldly staring at the hapless poor waiting to eat in his dungeon, you would fully appreciate what conspicuous consumption in the midst of utter poverty truly is.

Janice, stone cold and gaudily attired in her jet black Ninja suit, Cece doing everything possible to avoid any eye contact with the poor. Then Glide guards shooing away the rabble to make way for Pope Cecil and his consort to leave Glide.

One the one hand it is utterly disgusting to behold how Corporations and the wealthy continue to support Glide and its projects. On the other, it is obvious such support comes from the privileged to assuage the wealthy's sense of guilt at the extreme poverty and starvation they have created for the masses.

And, Cece serves his masters well, as long as he, his family and the huge patronage crew diverting donations into large salaries, can also live in luxury amongst the utter despair and poverty of his peasant subjects. Subjects that incidently also provide Cecil a potent voting force (just as they did Jim Jones) whenever Cecil decides to lend a hand to shore up his favorite politicians...like Willie Brown.
