Marriage Equality Community Plans to Gather When Gov. Announces His Decision on AB849

by Equality California
The following Equality California chapters and allied organizations are hosting
community gatherings in response to the Governor's action on AB 849. We will rally
the same day of the veto if the Governor acts before 2 p.m. and the following
calendar day (including weekends) if the Governor acts after 2 p.m

EQUALITY CALIFORNIA

September 28, 2005

Thank you for your tireless efforts to urge Governor Schwarzenegger to sign AB 849
(Leno, D-San Francisco) and make California the first state to enact marriage
equality through legislative action.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has 11 more days to veto AB 849, sign the legislation
or allow it to become law without his signature. The bill has been in his inbox for
seven days.

A contingent of Equality California representatives and other leaders met with the
Governor's senior staff on September 21, the day before AB 849 was sent to his desk.
During that meeting, we explained why marriage equality is critical and discussed
how it impacts our diverse community. We also requested that the Governor reconsider
his position that Prop. 22 precludes him from signing AB 849.

When the Governor acts - which could anytime this week - we will gather as a
community to respond.

No matter what the Governor does, we will gather together as a community for a
unified response. We will celebrate the incredible gains we have made over the last
year, and reaffirm our determination to continue our struggle until we achieve full
equality. Please see details for statewide community actions below.

As proud, peaceful LGBT people, families and allies, we will speak the truth of our
lives and stand up for our dignity.

Please join us!
