7pm, Sunday
August 28th
2050 Bryant St.

THE SILENT CROSS: Joaquin Alvarado, 2004, 87min. Spanish/English.
A Chicano filmmaker learns first hand the perils migrants face crossing the
US/Mexico border in search of work and opportunity.
THE NATIVES: Jesse Lerner/Scott Sterling, 1991, 24min. Natives follows the
individuals involved in San Diego's anti-immigration movement. Relying
principally on a direct cinema style and eye for the absurd, the film critiques
the nativist position by contrasting their professed love of country
with their racist and
anti-democratic attitudes.
ANIMAQUILADORA: Alex Rivera and Lalo Lopez, 1997, 4min. includes L.A.
Cucaracha, a series of three animated shorts based on the political
cartoon strip by Lalo Lopez.
-------------------------
Event in collaboration with Bay Area Coalition to Fight the Minutemen and Borderland collective. $5 donation suggested, (no one turned
away). A collection will be taken to help support the efforts of the
BACFM to shut down the the Minutemen when they arrive in San Diego on Sep 16.
Event features speakers from Borderland Collective and BACFM. Food
and refreshments provided.
