Border Hack 2005

by deanosor (from lists) (deanosor [at] comcast.net)
In early August, a gathering of anti-border type people will occur in San Diego/Tijuana. Here is an annoucnement of their activities.
Hey everyone!! So things are coming along with borderHack 2005. We have a
date set for the big week - August 3-7th in San Diego/Tijuana- with camps and forums, media
labs and much more, on the border. The website is up
http://www.deletetheborder.org, and soon to be http://www.borderhack.org also. Sadly,
there couldn’t be a better time for Borderhack. This summer will be
explosive and we must drown out the racists with our struggles for justice
in border communities, and an honest conversation about
globalization and migration. The minutemen are coming to California if you
hadn’t heard. We have been talking to all of you about the event and lots
of people are excited. For a little more info and hopefully some
inspiration we are working on the first borderhack 2005 communique which
we hope to put out soon.

We would like to set up several committees to bottom-line some of these
activities. This is a very open, democratic process, so please feel
welcome to jump in and help hack the border. We only ask you to read the
communiqué, and check out the PGA hallmarks that we organize under. That
is just so that we are kind of on the same page and have some points of
unity. We need lots of help, and I think everyone realizes the
importance of this work at this time in history. And hopefully, some of
these activities can take a life of their own.

Here are some of the proposed committees. And people are welcome to
propose others. Future meetings will be posted here in the calendar
section.

Committees:

-Planning for the week of, i.e. schedule of activities, speakers,
workshops, forums, marches/rallies etc.
-Fundraising (we need to raise a few thousand dollars in the next two months)
-Benefit show concert/event planning (this could be part of the
fundraising committee)
-Design crew (we need t-shirts, posters, stickers, etc. designed and made)
-Tech crew (a big part of borderhack is digital art, web-based work, etc.)
-Tactical Media team (setting up the media lab for live radio, live video,
photo editing, imc posting, etc.)
-Corporate media team (nasty but necessary, working seriously to get our
story out)
-Camp planning (camp infrastructure for hundreds of people)

If you're interested in getting involved in organizing borderHack, respond
to this email with an introduction of yourself and we can add you to our
organizer list.
