Sacramento March for Democracy in Mexico

by Dan Bacher (danielbacher [at] hotmail.com)
Don't miss Sacramento's March for Democracy in Mexico on Sunday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
MARCH FOR DEMOCRACY IN MEXICO -- MAYOR OF MEXICO CITY ARRESTED

NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PROTESTS OF SILENCE WILL TAKE PLACE AT SAME TIME ON APRIL 24TH AT MEXICAN EMBASSIES AND CONSULATES.

SACRAMENTO CANDLELIGHT VIGIL SET FOR SUNDAY APRIL 24TH IN PROTEST OF MEXICAN GOVT UNDEMOCRATIC ACTIONS DENYING ANDRES MANUEL LOPEZ OBRADOR HIS CIVIL RIGHTS AS A NATIONAL MEXICAN LEADER AND POSSIBLE 2006 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.

Northern California Mexicans and supporters of democracy in Mexico will hold a candlelight vigil and march to the Mexican Consulate in Sacramento and to the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC):

WHEN: Sunday, April 24, 2005, 7:00 pm

WHERE: Gather at Cesar Chavez Plaza Park, 10th and J Streets, Sacramento, CA

WHAT: March of Silence on sidewalks carrying candles, first to the Mexican Consulate located at 8th & J Streets, downtown Sacramento, then march four blocks to the FPPC on 5th & J Streets.

The people of Mexico have resolved to fill Mexico City's Zocalo on April 24th to protest the imminent unjust arrest and removal of Mexico City Mayor, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador by a desperate, anti-democratic alliance of the PRI and PAN political parties, wrongly utilizing the "desafuero" (withdrawal of immunity).

Solidarity marches, protests, and peaceful vigils have been called in many major cities in several continents at the same time. Friends of Mexico's still-young democracy in Sacramento will gather at Cesar Chavez Park on April 24, 2005, and stage peaceful protests at the Offices of Mexico's Consulate on 8th and J Streets. Similar actions are occurring in Los Angeles,
San Diego, Dallas, Chicago, Washington DC, and other cities in the U.S.
