A 26-year-old San Francisco man died early Sunday after struggling with police officers and being restrained with straps known as a "body wrap," the Police Department reported.
The department said its officers reached the Airport Inn on Airport Boulevard just past midnight after hotel guests complained that a person was knocking on their door and screaming.
Julio Armando Ayala was combative and confronted officers, the department said. After a 15-minute struggle, five officers restrained Ayala with the strap system but he soon stopped breathing, the department said.
The San Mateo County district attorney's office is investigating the death, routine in such cases.

meet someone tougher than them.
took probably a whole bunch of them to subdue him when it would
take an average Joe 2 second max!
This evening a crowd of Family, Friends and Supporters of Justice4JulioAyala gathered at 6 P.M in front of the SF Airport Inn, 751 Boulevard, and silently built an altar celebrating Julio's life and mourning his death, right under Room 203 where Julio was brutally murdered by San Mateo PD. Among us, companeros from Coleman Advocates, Radio 10-10, the family of Sheila Amaya killed in Union City, Sister Kissi from the Bayview Chapter of the Campaign to End the Death Penalty... Julio's murder is a tragic example of death row on the streets for our young Black and Brown Brothers and Sisters. The Hindu hotal management was extremely nervous about the altar, and told us they would dismantel it first thing in the morning "You made us loose 5 customers already today". After a tense ineraction, we all agreed to be supportive of each other (South East Asians are also victims of racial profiling since 9-11), to remove the altar from their lawn and transport it to the sidewalk.
Next action: Wednesday May 18, 5 P.M. on the steps of SSF City Hall. For more info, email iolmisha [at] cs.com
Julio, you have not died in vain !

so dont be giving me no lectures about idiotic responses when YOU made the dumbest response yet.
I dont know maybe people are tougher around where I grew up, but nobody and I mean nobody needed help with a 1 on 1 fight.
But I see 4 or 5 cops trying to arrest ONE guy and it makes me laugh thinking about how weak the Police in the cities actually are.
And yes the guy was Murdered, if you needed anymore than your own 2 arms and fists to capture the guy then you used a weapon and it's murder plain and simple.
And dont give me this he was on PCP crap, PCP doesnt make you freaking superman.
I don't know any details of the event other than what is reported here. I do know that rsponders to these articles seem to lack a knowledge of policework, at least what is required of an officer. Every department has a policy concerning force. If they violated the law and/or department policy, they usually fry. If your friend was breaking the law and was not willing to obey the commands given, sorry for your loss.
BTW, having a great time keeping the cost of opium high. Wish you were here.
Shut up. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I GUARANTEE if you were in the same positin as the officers, but were alone..you would be eihter seriously injured or dead. And you have no idea about PCP...it doesn't make someone a superman...remember superman felt pain. A punk on PCP does not. Go back to the sticks you troll. Stay out of the big city....you can't handle the truth.
I made a whole bunch of people mad.
anyway in answer to your questions.
Joel said to subdue someone without giving them a buttload of
stitches may require 4 officers and a taser, pepper spray etc.
Why would you care about giving your "perp" stitches? isnt this
just a cop out for saying you cant handle the situation yourself?
And if dealing with someone on a narcotic they may die of
overload to their systems while in custody.
How is that any fault of Police? They took the drug so if the
person dies on the drug it's their own fault.
I agree with the rest of your statement.
Have fun keeping the cost of opium high, But it would be better
if you guys got rid of it.
To second opinion.
You say someone on PCP doesnt feel pain, then they have a
big advantage over anyone trying to fight them, But you cant be
a woosey and say oh no this guy has an advantage over me, I
guess I'll gang up on this guy.
Superman felt pain? I did not know that.
So you think I'm a Troll LOL, well since were calling each other
mythical beasts, I guess you'd be a gargoyle.
Apparently I cant handle the truth LOL, Oh No what am I ever
gonna do? maybe I'll take a truth handling course? and be the
best truth handler around oh king of truth handling.
To Bro D.
And maybe yes I have a positive self image, and yes I have
been in a couple of squabbles, which took longer than 2
seconds, and yes I enjoy playing games, such as video games,
board games, Basketball, football, soccer, Hockey, and red
rover.
Sincerely My opinion
and remember opinions are like buttholes everyone has one.
For those that got their panties in a twist, check the use of force continuim as practiced by your local department. Hell, go for a few ride alongs. Just remember to keep your mouth shut till you have all the facts. see that the incident mentioned was probably one in a long line of similar events.
do more than regurgitate some one elses propaganda. Go see for yourself.
