NIMBYs Turn Meeting into Bitchfest

freeman's blog HempEvolution.org

San Francisco, CA Mar 29, 2005 -- A sizeable contigent of ASAers [Americans for Safe Access] and mmj patients showed up for what turned out to be a bitchfest by neighborhood residents over double parking and the line of "rough-looking" patients seeking free dubs.

A few deranged NIMBYs [not in my backyard] interrupted the owner of MendoHealing, David Moore, as he offered to work with residents over these issues.

One neighborhood woman ran out, screaming "she couldn't take this anymore". Several medical cannabis supporters also were rudely interrupted by the NIMBYs as they tried to speak.

Robert Altman, a resident of SomarVilla, who lives above the dispensary, gave his account of how he assaulted a doorman at MendoHealing after the doorman shouted "F*ck you!" over a dispute involving parking and loiterers.

The meeting was sponsored by Capt. Dennis O'Leary of the Southern Station of the SFPD.  Head Narc, Capt. Tim Hettrich and old friend, Sgt. Marty Halloran [the SFPD dispensary inspector] were there. Representatives from Supe Daly's office, the DA's office, the City Attorney's office and the Planning Dept. were also in attendance.

All present seemed to be in agreement that there are many issues dispensaries and SOMA residents need to discuss in order to improve area quality of life, while serving the needs of the many patients seeking compassion from MendoHealing and other neighborhood dispensaries.
