Nazi Newsom Votes to Destroy Workers' Homes

by SF Voter
Nazi Newsom, the Democratic Party's latest pro-landlord hoodlum sitting illegally in the mayor's office, vetoed legislation that would have stopped the demolition of 377 rent-controlled apartments at Trinity Plaza at 8th and Market, San Francisco.

Trinity Plaza is the site of the old Del Webb Townhouse hotel, where labor once held conventions, and now it is much needed housing for the workingclass, and should remain so.

Supervisor Chris Daly, the sponsor of the legislation to save these desperately-needed homes from demolition so the owner of the building can build luxury condominiums and totally unaffordable housing to the seniors who only collect Social (In)Security and most other workers, will try to get 8 votes to override this viciously reactionary veto, which could make some of these poor people homeless.

He once had the 8 votes, but one Democrat, Supervisor Bevan Dufty of District 8 (the Castro, Duboce Triangle, Noe Valley, part of Twin Peaks), changed his vote on the second round. This is the same Democrat Dufty, a loyal stooge of anti-tenant former "mayor" Willie Brown, who was supported by such good Democrats as Congressperson Barbara Lee of Berkeley-Oakland, the same Barbara Lee who supported Willie Brown's re-election in 1999, who voted for the resolution supporting the butcher of Palestine, Ariel Sharon, and who proudly defended her vote for the resolutoin condemning an excellent 9th Circuit decision tossing the illegal Pledge of Allegiance, which violates the separation of Church and State, thus proclaiming her willful violation of her oath of office to uphold the Constitution. In fact Dufty was the proud candidate of the entire Democratic Party machine, including such reactionaries as Senator Dianne Feinstein, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and all the rest of them.

The Bay Guardian of 3/3/04 had an excellent editorial on this story at http://www.sfbg.com/38/23/news_ed_demolition.html

As the Bay Guardian states, Dufty joined fellow Democrats Michela Alioto-Pier, Fiona Ma and "independent" Tony Hall in opposing this legislation.

Daly should certainly put this on the November presidential election, high voter turnout ballot if he does not get the 8 votes to override the veto, so that again, as he did in the March 2004 primary with Prop J, Nazi Newsom will experience a resounding defeat on the basic issue in San Francisco: Housing the workingclass.

75% of San Franciscans support gay marriage; it is not a campaign issue locally, only nationally. Here in San Francisco, the primary issue is housing, and in particular, the defense of rent control.

As to one definition of fascism that people have as being the kicking down of doors and jailing people without trial and indefinitely, and searching people's homes when they are not home without a warrant and with no notice, the Democrats and Republicans voted for that with the reactionary Patriot Act, which was proudly supported by Nazi Gavin Newsom as supervisor. The Fourth Amendment and most of the rest of the Bill of Rights was destroyed by this fascist act. The immigrant communities have been experiencing a reign of terror with the government hauling thousands of people to jail with no lawyer, no charges and often no contact with their families for a long time. The number imprisoned have been kept a secret. They are often realized months later, with no charges ever having been brought. Currently, there are American citizens also being imprisoned without charges, indefinitely, by the president, thus cancelling the rights humanity achieved under the Magna Carta, namely habeas corpus. The horrifying precedent of imprisoning 660 people on Guantanamo without charges, without trial in a civil court, following international law, and being subjected to inhumane, illegal treatment, is also part of the fascist terror perpetrated by Bush & Company, supported by Nazi Newsom.

For over 20 years now, the Democrats and Republicans together have proudly supported the phony drug wars which are simply police state terror in the workingclass communities to keep our wages down by making unity difficult. Doors are certainly being kicked in all the time, without warrant, and people dragged off to jail or simply killed outright with this murder being described as justifiable homicide every day.

The prison-concentration camp system that exists in this country has caused Amnesty International to issue a report condemning this system for its horrors and violations of many national and international laws, and would certainly make Hitler proud.

Nazi Newsom supports the prison system and its accompanying reactionary death penalty, which does not exist in Europe.

Both the Democrats and Republicans are the landlords' parties and that is why no worker, those of us who sell our labor for less than $70,000 a year, should ever vote for any Democrat or any Republican at any level of government.

The Peace & Freedom Party and locally, the Green Party, have been consistently pro-tenant and none of their candidates are allowed to be pro-landlord or attack tenants or rent control.

The San Francisco Tenants' Union will certainly support Daly's legislation if it is on the November ballot. Keep up with the SFTU's news at
