DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Empowerment Network Invites You \nto learn about and support
 a new \nMidwife Education Project! \n\nPlease join us for:\nDorothy
Granada’s presentation on:\nSkills To Save Lives of Women in \nRural
 Nicaragua \n\nSATURDAY MAY 5th\n6:30 to 9:00 \nSlide Show, Talk \nFolk
Dancing and Dessert!\n\nAt the Resource Center for Nonviolence\n612 Ocean
Street in Santa Cruz\n\n\n\nSliding Scale Donations Gratefully
Accepted\n\n\n\nThis is a Pilot Project with a goal of reducing death and
illness of girls, women and infants in Nicaragua. This project will train
and accompany 100 traditional midwives and their community health workers
who live and work in the most remote areas of the Department of Matagalpa,
where women are at risk for illness and death during the reproductive
process. \n\n\nDorothy Granada, a former resident of Santa Cruz, has lived
and worked as a nurse in Nicaragua for the last 27 years. She believes this
project is well designed because the midwives and community health workers
are given the support that they need. Dorothy says, “These women and men
are heroic. Some travel 2 days, risking swollen rivers to attend trainings.
To hear their stories of struggles to save lives of women is deeply moving
and underscores the urgent need for this program.”\n\n\nfor more
